Most Popular Posts of 2019 - a roundup

Popular craft projects of 2019

As we mark the arrival of 2020 I’m taking a look back on the most popular posts here on Sum of their Stories over the last 12 months.

I really enjoy having a look back at the year’s project and seeing what has been popular with you all. It’s often a surprise, sometimes the things I think will be a sure fire winner are not and an idea I almost don’t share because I’m not sure about it can be a real hit!

Just click through any of these photos to go to the full tutorials.

My first project of 2019 turned out to be one of the most popular of the year. It was the little travel noughts and crosses game in a bag (or tic tac toe if you prefer)

I joined the Sew a Softie project again this year and my contribution was this little snake upcycled from an old (clean) stripy sock. His tongue looks a lot better proportioned in real life - honest! - and he’s super quick and easy to make.

This little felt scissor cover was one of my favourite things to make last year. It was a great way to use a tiny scrap of felted fabric, and really protects your best embroidery scissors.

I continued to join the Pinterest challenge regularly this year and in June I tried something called flower pounding or smashing. It’s a really fun technique and when I added a little bit of doodling I was able to make some pretty cards and a bookmark.

A really nice gift for a friend who sews is a magnetic pin dish. What am I saying - it’s a great thing to make for yourself too! Anyone who has ever trodden on a pin NEEDS one of these dishes, they make it easy to keep track of those little blighters.

They are really easy to make using a little dish you can pick up easier from a charity shop or thrift store or maybe even something you have already at the back of a cupboard.

This card idea was without doubt the most difficult to photograph thing I made this year!

I had such fun participating in the ‘year of bunting’ organised by Tea and a Sewing Machine and joined in with a few bunting ideas. This little Bunting in a Box idea proved really popular. It’s a bit more special than a regular card, it’s a set of cards on a thread that fold up into an old jewellery box. Click on the photo to see exactly how to make your own.

As well as a crafter I’m an avid reader so I had lots of fun putting a gift guide for book lovers together.

I love love love making crochet flowers, they are just so quick and satisfying to make.

I put together a little pattern for forget me nots a few months ago, you can rustle these up in no time and use them however you like!

That’s it, the most popular posts here on Sum of their Stories in 2019. I’ve got lots of new projects and ideas in the pipeline to share with you in 2020. I hope you stop by again to see if anything inspires you to get crafty this year!
