I love love love crocheting flowers! It was why I learnt to crochet in the first place and still my favourite way to use up little scraps of yarn.

Forget me nots are one of my favourite flowers. When I first started this blog I wanted to call it something with forget me not in the name but it turned out everything I could think of was already taken. I ended up with the name Sum of their Stories, taken from a line in a poem. Actually I’ve written a little about why I started the blog and if you read that the forget me not reference will make more sense.

For the last few weeks I’ve been playing around to create a crochet forget me not flower pattern and now I’m finally ready to share it with you.

The pattern is simple, just 2 rounds and it is perfect for using up scraps of blue and white yarn. You can make these with any weight of yarn, just pick a suitable crochet hook. The thicker the yarn, the bigger the flower will turn out.

Supplies needed to crochet forget me not flowers

  • Small scraps of white and pale blue yarn - mine is Double Knitting which is like a light worsted but any yarn will work

  • A suitable crochet hook - mine is 3.5mm(E4), these Clover Amour hooks are my favourite

  • A yellow button

  • Needle

Tension is not important. This pattern is written in UK terms (I’ve now added the pattern in US crochet terms at the bottom of this tutorial, just scroll down to find it)

Row 2: Change to blue yarn. Join in any stitch, * in next st work (1 htrb, 2 trb, 1 dtrb, 2 trb, 1 htrb) This feels like A LOT of stitches to go in the same stitch, you really have to squeeze them in.

Now sl st in next st. Make sure you don’t miss a stitch, the next one might be a bit squished under that petal you’ve just made.

Ta dah! Your flower is finished. Sew it on a hat, glue it to a hair clip, sew a safety pin or brooch bar on the back and make it into a brooch, whatever takes your fancy.
