Handmade Monday #403

Welcome to this week’s Handmade Monday. Handmade Monday is our weekly link up, where creative bloggers can share craft ideas, tutorials, recipes etc. Take a few minutes out of your busy day and enjoy perusing the creative ideas and inspiration.

traditional christmas covered in handmade decorations

I finally had chance to put up our Christmas decorations this week. Our tree is never a well coordinated, stylish, designer type tree. This is because as I get the decorations out I feel like I’m meeting old friends again; friends that I’ve not seen since last January when I packed them away carefully! I have a complete inability to get rid of any so we have decorations the kids made 20 years ago that still go up. I have a friend who gives me a small gift every year with a beautiful personalised gift tag, so of course all those gift tags are on the tree too. The pink teddy that sits near the top was made for the kids by my mum a few years before she died, so he’s pretty special. There are a couple of fused glass ornaments I made at a workshop a few years ago, and naturally some crocheted snowflakes. Lots of special memories.

Then there are all the ones I’ve made over the years. This is just a few: Origami Ornament, my recent make from an empty tape roll (which did make it to the tree after all!) a book page ornament, my ceramic effect bauble upcycle, one of my favourites - my pom pom ornament upcycle and a cross stitch heart which I sell the pattern for in my Etsy shop.

It’s an artificial tree, which I know is not considered the best choice environmentally. This is only our 2nd tree, in 32 years of marriage. The first one got embarrassingly sparse after 22 years so we replaced it in 2014 with this one. I’m hoping that if we keep it long enough it’s carbon footprint will be well and truly offset.

How do you feel about a real Christmas tree vs an artificial one?

Anyway, that’s enough about Christmas trees, let’s take a look at the features from last week’s Handmade Monday.

  • Remember if you want to pin any of these ideas please make sure you click through via the photo to the original project.

Hello Sewing has used cathedral window patchwork to make this lovely ornament.

Charleston Crafted shows us how to create this beautiful boho christmas tree wall hanging.

Darcy and Brian shared how to make these pretty angel ornaments from coffee filters.

Congratulations to you all. There is a "YAY I was featured" button over here if you want to add one to your blog.

A like on social media, a comment or share is an easy way for us all to help to support one another so please do take a moment to visit some of the other projects linked up this week. It’s not mandatory to be able to join in here, there’s no easy way to check if you did but it costs nothing but a few minutes of your time and is just a nice thing to do!

The rules for Handmade Monday are very simple:

  • Did you make it? Yes - then yay! We'd love to see it

  • Add the link to a specific post, not your main blog url

  • You can link up to 3 posts each week but try to make sure it's not something that you've shared here before

  • Mingle - visit some other links - comment - share - be social

HANDMADE MONDAY IS NOT A PLACE FOR SELLING SO NO LINKS TO ETSY OR OTHER SELLING PAGES, THEY WILL ALWAYS BE REMOVED. THANKS

If you are not sure of anything more details can be found here.

At Handmade Monday the links are shown in a random order so it’ll look different each time you pop by.
