How to make a quick and easy greeting card with paper bunting

It’s been a few months since I joined with the Year of Bunting challenge from Tea and a Sewing Machine. The August challenge is Seaside, Spots or Stripes so when I needed a couple of cards this week I thought I’d make some, just in time before then end of August, to fit the bunting theme.

I’m a self confessed paper hoarder, I keep even the tiniest bits, some I think I’ve had for well over 10 years, maybe longer! So this was a great project to use just a few of those scraps. I pulled out anything that I could find with either spots or stripes.

Looking at this selection I decided to do one card with spots and one with stripes. Here’s how:

To make a simple bunting card you will need:

  • A 6” square card blank

  • Scraps of scrapbook paper

  • A piece of white card

  • A length of string/twine

  • A stamp with your choice of greeting - mine are very old - freebies from a magazine at some point - please don’t judge me by how old and stained they look!

  • Ink pad

  • Paper glue - I used a High Tack Permanent Glue Tape Roller provided for me to review by All Things Sticky

  • Foam Pads

Cut a piece of patterned paper just a little smaller than your card blank, a strip of white card approx 6cm (2.5”) wide and 3 little bunting flag shapes from tiny scraps of scrapbook paper.

Stamp a greeting on the strip of white card about 4cm (1.5”) down and then add the bunting flags in a straight line underneath using the foam pads.

Fix this strip of card to the square of patterned paper a little off to one side.

I used the high tack glue tape roller for this, the spotty yellow paper I was using was slightly textured so it can be difficult to get things to stick to it. I found this kind of roller glue better than a solid stick type of glue although a very thin layer of a pva can work well too.

Wrap the twine around the paper and tie in a bow to one side of the card strip. If you tie the bow and it ends up a little skew-wiff (as they often do) just use a few tiny dabs of pva glue to hold it straight. My favourite pva glue is Anita’s tacky glue.

Attach this square to your card blank and your bunting card is finished.

So that’s it, a super simple little bunting inspired card idea that uses up just a few little pieces from my scrap paper collection.

I’m only finding the time to join in sporadically but I am enjoying Anna’s Year of Bunting - do you fancy joining in with some bunting crafting of your own?
