Handmade Monday #369

Welcome to another Handmade Monday, our weekly link up for all things handmade.

Have you ever tried brioche crochet? I’d not even heard of it (I have heard of brioche knitting) before Lyjo Lelijo shared a beginners guide and simple pattern on Handmade Monday last week. Of course I had to give it a try and this is what I managed.

If you can already crochet it’s actually not too difficult but it did take me a little while to get the hang of it. I had to frog the whole thing and start again several times when things went a bit lopsided. If you want to try brioche crochet then Vita’s pattern is a good place to start but I would advise reading all her advice carefully, especially the paragraph “main principles of brioche crochet” which explains that although not mentioned in the pattern throughout you work 2 chain between every stitch. Also, it may seem super obvious to everyone else but unfortunately it wasn’t initially to me that when Vita’s pattern says, for example: FPdc * 4, 2FpdcShell she wants you to work 4 double crochets in the front of the post then a 2FpdcShell - I’m more used to a * being used in a different way on knitting patterns and not as a multiplier. AND of course because I work in UK terms and this pattern is written in US terms I also have to remember to work trebles not doubles!

Anyway, once you get the hang of it, it is a lovely crochet technique and one I will come back to again soon I’m sure.

Now let’s take a look at the features from last week’s Handmade Monday:

Click through on the photos to see the original posts.

  • Remember if you want to pin any of these ideas please make sure you click through via the photo to the original project.

  • I really love the fact that we have entries to Handmade Monday from all over the world, what a wonderful way to connect us all. However sometimes this means that blogs might be in a different language. Just double click to get google translate to pop up so you can understand what is going on :-)

Of course I have to feature Lyjo Lelijo’s lovely pattern and guide to brioche crochet!

Donna from Modern on Monticello has zhuzhed up a pretty cushion and made it even more lovely by adding pom poms all around the edge. Pom Pom all the things!

Congratulations to you both. There is a "YAY I was featured" button over here if you want to add one to your blog.

A like on social media, a comment or share is an easy way for us all to help to support one another so please do take a moment to visit some of the other projects linked up this week. It’s not mandatory to be able to join in here, there’s no easy way to check if you did but it costs nothing but a few minutes of your time and is just a nice thing to do!

The rules for Handmade Monday are very simple:

  • Did you make it? Yes - then yay! We'd love to see it

  • Add the link to a specific post, not your main blog url

  • You can link up to 3 posts each week but try to make sure it's not something that you've shared here before

  • Mingle - visit some other links - comment - share - be social

HANDMADE MONDAY IS NOT A PLACE FOR SELLING SO NO LINKS TO ETSY OR OTHER SELLING PAGES, THEY WILL ALWAYS BE REMOVED. THANKS

If you are not sure of anything more details can be found here.

At Handmade Monday the links are shown in a random order so it’ll look different each time you pop by.
