Chocolate Chip Flowers
How to make chocolate flower cake decorations from chocolate chips.
Have you ever needed a quick cake decoration and not had tiem to pop to the shops to buy anything special? You can make these little chocolate flowers from the chocolate chips you already have in your pantry.
These little chocolate flower decorations are SO simple to make, take next to no time and look super cute to decorate cupcakes. I made mine from both milk chocolate and dark chocolate, they would look great make from white chocolate chips too. In my typical ‘use what you already have’ way I used silver and gold edible pearls for my flower centres, but you could use any little round sweet/candy or even sprinkles.
To make your own Chocolate Chip Flowers you will need:
A baking tray
Edible Pearls or sweets for the centres
Cocktail sticks
Oven
You need the oven to be warm to make these little flowers. I made mine straight after I’d made my cupcakes, I switched the oven off and just melted the chocolate chips in the residual heat. If your oven is not already on then just pop it on at 180c / 350f.
Cover the baking tray with baking parchment.
Lay the chocolate chips in circles of 5. You can do any combo of any type of chocolate chip you like.
Pop the tray into the oven for 45 seconds. DO NOT walk away and leave it! The chocolate chips will not look any different, just trust the process!
Take the baking tray out of the oven and using the cocktail stick pull each chocolate chip towards the centre. Then give the whole thing a swirl. This makes a little flower shape.
Pop an edible pearl or little sweet into the centre. You have time to swirl a tray full of flowers, then add all the pearls, they don’t set too quickly.
Leave the flowers on the baking tray and pop the whole thing in the fridge. They set pretty quickly. I’m not entirely sure how long, I made these and went out. When I came back a couple of hours later they were good to go.
I used my little chocolate chip flower cake decorations on some simple vanilla sponge cupcakes, with vanilla buttercream. You can find the recipe I always use for cakes like this here.
Super sweet, super easy - it doesn’t get much better than that!
These little chocolate flowers are substantial enough to stand up in the icing too if you prefer.
